Jacob BEARD
THE BEARD FUNERAL
 
The funeral of Jacob Beard, resident of Pomona for 20 years was held last Thursday afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal church, with Rev J.W.Bailey officiating. A quartet composed of Miss Fannie Krans, Mrs. Henry McFadden, Mrs. W H Wiggins and Mrs. S Button sang "Rock of ages," and "Nearer My God to Thee." Mrs. F W Abel was the accompanist. The pall bearers were: Jerry Bown, S V Rice, John Cole, Bert Hughs, Rufus McEathron, and S Button. Mr. Beard died suddenly Tuseday from a stroke of apoplexy. The out of town relatives were: Mr. and Mrs. E A Beard, Iola;  Miss Cora Beard, Topeka, and George Beard, Burlingame. Burial was in Dean cemetery. Mr. Beard had been a resident of Franklin County 69 years
 

 
JACOB BEARD DEAD
Jacob Beard, past 84 years old, well known bachelor and veteran of the Civil War was found in an unconscious condition from a stroke of apoplexy, in the front yard at this home about 8:30 Tuesday morning. He was found by Ira Shea who was passing at the place. Help and a doctor was called and he was taken into the house but failed totally and died at 1:15 o'clock.
Mr. Beard was born in June 1842, New Boston, Mercer County, Illinois, and came to Kansas in 1857. Three brothers that survived are George Beard, Osage County, Will Beard, Topeka,  and Cyrus Beard, Phoenix, Arizona. During the Civil War he survived three years with the 15th Kansas Calvary. He had lived at Pomona 20 years.
